John Malkovich portrays him in the limited series, The New Look, co-starring Ben Mendelsohn as Christian Dior, Maisie Williams as Catherine Dior, and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel. The story centers around how each of the designers survived the German invasion in the late 1940s. All three designers rose to fame, but behind the beautiful dresses was a much sadder story for Dior, Chanel and Lelong. Dior’s sister Catherine was captured by the Nazis for her resistance work in trying to protect Jewish people. Chanel’s history with the Nazis is less noble and the series shows how she became a Nazi informant and had an affair with a German officer. Malkovich sat down with SheKnows for an exclusive chat where he breaks down that time in history, and specifically the conveniently forgotten part of that history that many might not think of when they first hear the name Coco Chanel.

Like many, Binoche admitted that she wasn’t aware of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior’s complicated story during World War II. History has remembered mainly the glamorous parts of the fashion legends, ignoring that they both rose to fame while the Nazis were in power. Lelong, Dior and Chanel all had to make choices, some that aren’t very easy to sympathize with looking back. “It is a forgotten bit of history, but history is to be forgotten, meaning it always has been, and its lessons rarely learned,” Malkovich says. He then continues, “A lot of the accommodations people made in the circumstances which they found themselves, I don’t think people now would make any less accommodations. In fact, I think they would make much more. Our recent bout with Covid-19 proves that.”

Lelong negotiated with the Germans during the war to make sure that French couture was allowed to operate in France and not move to Berlin. Though some might argue that Lelong was a collaborator with the Germans. “I think he did what most people would do in the situation in which he found himself… he made accommodations (to) survive. They didn’t know whether the Nazi occupation would last a month, a year, or a thousand years. They had no idea what the future would bring,” Malkovich explains, adding that for all they knew, the Third Reich’s reign could last forever. “I think Lelong did what he had to do to keep the French fashion business and haute couture going during these very dark times. And that included designing dresses for Nazi wives, mistresses and officials.”

Juliette Binoche Reveals Coco Chanel’s Rarely Talked About Dark Side in The New Look https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2959904/juliette-binoche-coco-chanel-the-new-look/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2959904/juliette-binoche-coco-chanel-the-new-look/#respond Sun, 18 Feb 2024 17:21:57 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2959904 When one hears the names Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, the first word that comes to mind is couture. The second is probably icons. While many may immediately think of Chanel No. 5 when hearing about the fashion legend, most don’t know about Chanel’s history during World War II. And it’s a shocker. Juliette Binoche, who plays Coco Chanel in The New Look, sat down exclusively with SheKnows to discuss her new limited series on Apple TV+. Binoche is joined by Ben Mendelsohn, who plays Christian Dior, John Malkovich as Lucien Lelong, and Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as Christian’s sister Catherine Dior. The New Look is an eye-opening look at Chanel’s not so iconic past – specifically her involvement with the Nazi party, and the Dior family’s brutal hardships during the war.

Binoche confesses like many she had little knowledge of Chanel’s history as a Nazi informant. The New Look explores this side of Chanel, that seems to have been brushed under the historical rug. As you watch the show, Chanel No. 5 might not smell as sweet. Binoche herself admits, “I didn’t know very much, I knew there were some shadows around there, it took me a while to understand where it came from, not to excuse her, but to understand where the roots were.” Chanel was involved in an affair with a German official and Binoche says her relationship with Boy Capel, who gave her confidence, but subsequently betrayed her by marrying someone of higher status, impacted Chanel a lot. But wait, a broken heart doesn’t justify becoming a Nazi informant. Binoche says, Capel’s death and the trauma of that relationship seems to have turned Chanel into some who didn’t care about anything but having fun.

We asked Binoche if she was able to feel sympathy for Chanel, and whether Chanel was conveniently naïve or intentionally trying to hurt people. “When you play a character like this, you’re not looking for sympathy, you’re looking for something to understand the need, and relate to the need – she was manipulative at certain times, I don’t think there was premeditation.”

Chanel also had a relationship with a German official, Spatz, played artfully by Bad Sisters’ villain Claes Bang, who ultimately turned out to be a spy who had relationships with many women. Some says Chanel didn’t have a lot to do with the Nazi party, but she was in bed with them. Literally.

The history of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior during World War II is deeply depressing, as we learn that Dior goes to Chanel for help to get his sister Catherine out of a Nazi work camp. Catherine was the inspiration for Dior’s 1947 “New Look” collection. Catherine was a resistance fighter who was captured by the Nazis. If you’re wondering whether Chanel helped a fellow fashionista out, she did not. The two were never fans of each other, but this probably put the nail in the coffin, or rather pin in their cushion. Politics made strange bedfellows, and Coco Chanel chose unwisely.

However, Binoche reveals there was one person Chanel cared about and that was her nephew, a French soldier named André, who had been captured by the Nazis. In fact, some say Chanel only was involved with the Nazis to free her nephew.

“If I put myself in her shoes, she was definitely a survivor, and conqueror, and didn’t care about the consequences…. And there was a feeling of being entitled, because she was the star of design at the time. During the wars, she was the one liberating women – liberating women from corsets, liberating women from skirts, putting pants on, cutting her hair, suntan. Everything she was doing for herself, became fashionable,” Binoche says, and adds that Chanel never wanted to dress the Germans. But the Germans bought her business. “When she learned that her nephew was a prisoner of the Germans, she wanted to save him.”

In fact, that might explain her involvement with German official-gigolo spy Spatz. Though Binoche says she also wanted to “have a little bit of a good time, to lighten up during that horrible period of time.”

Milo Ventimiglia Shares How Luke & Liam Hemsworth Made Up for Not Meeting This 'Land of Bad' Co-Star https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2958695/milo-ventimiglia-luke-liam-hemsworth-russell-crowe-land-of-bad/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2958695/milo-ventimiglia-luke-liam-hemsworth-russell-crowe-land-of-bad/#respond Fri, 16 Feb 2024 17:52:36 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2958695 Whether you know Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson in This Is Us, Jess in Gilmore Girls, or even Peter Petrelli in Heroes, the actor’s upcoming movie, Land of Bad, which hits theatres on Feb. 16, sees him in a whole new light. In the movie, Ventimiglia transforms into a badass action star as his character, Sugar, won’t stop at anything to see his mission through.

Alongside Sugar in the mission is a group of three other officials including Kinney (played by Liam Hemsworth), Abel (Luke Hemsworth) and Bishop (Ricky Whittle). And, given that the premise involves the four of them in a dangerous ambush into enemy territory, it’s safe to say that things get really bloody really quick.

When Ventimiglia talked to SheKnows, however, it seems like their time in between takes was luckily quite different. “I mean, when you’re working with Ricky Whittle, and Luke Hemsworth, and Liam Hemsworth it’s all just good times all the time,” he says. “They’re light and they’re fun and we’re having a good time and cracking jokes and watching those guys eat a pound of meat every 20 minutes.”

“I think given the explosions and the battles and the close-quarter combats, we were all just laughing and stretching,” Ventimiglia says, adding that he sometimes had to “stretch out a little bit more” because he was one of the “old guys.”

As for the co-star who made him laugh the most on set, Ventimiglia knew immediately who it was. “Ricky Whittle,” he says. “He’s devilishly funny.” “Ricky was the one that was constantly cracking jokes, constantly cracking up,” Ventimiglia remembers. “And then Liam Hemsworth was matching it.”

As for which one of the two Hemsworth brothers he considers his favorite, Ventimiglia refused to take sides. “I can’t do it,” he says. “I love them all equally, as similar as they are in the way of a Hemsworth, they’re also so unique.”

Ventimiglia then dished on his expert Hemsworth knowledge. “I look at Luke, and I can very much see how he’s the older brother leading the way,” he says of the Westworld star. “And I’ve met Chris [Hemsworth] a few times and I see Chris [has] gone out and done his own thing like the middle child. And then there’s Liam who’s just deep with emotion.”

“They’re all so unique but they all fundamentally have this just good spirit and kindness and heart and protective quality that they’re just they’re a good family,” Ventimiglia adds. “You know, Mom and Dad Hemsworth did well.”

And while Ventimiglia’s time on set seems great, there’s one co-star of his, Russell Crowe, who he unfortunately didn’t get to meet. In the movie, Crowe plays Air Force drone pilot Reaper who becomes the crew’s eyes in the sky during their battle for survival.

“No, I never met Russell,” Ventimiglia admits. “It was a bummer. It’s actually hard when you do a Russell Crowe movie and you don’t get to work with Russell Crowe.”

“But that doesn’t make the experience any less,” he continues. “I still admire the guy and love what he did in the movie and am proud of the work and everything.”

“Russell was making his own movie, then they just kind of pasted it all together,” Ventimiglia adds.

For a final question, we asked Ventimiglia about playing characters (both in This Is Us and Land of Bad) who, without giving too much away, have somewhat tragic endings.

“It’s kind of just like life, right? We all know, we have an end we don’t know when it’s gonna happen,” Ventimiglia reflects. “So why not live life fully? Why not experience what these characters are experiencing at such a level that you were really invested in them?”

He then went on to add that a specific moment in the first scene of the movie made his character come to life for him. “I think it was important that very first opening scene with myself and Liam, when he’s deciding between Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops, and I say ‘Go to Froot Loops, my daughter loves them,'” he describes. “Then bam the guy already humanized, you already understand him, you can take him out of that uniform and be like, ‘Oh, he’s just dad. He’s got a little girl. Oh man, I want to see his journey I want to root for him. I want to see how this goes.'”

“You know what the end is for these characters and you know that any of us are going to have an end but you don’t know exactly what it is,” Ventimiglia reflects. “So you kind of have to just live your life fully and be a good person and enjoy yourself.”

Renowned OB-GYN and menopause advocate Dr. Sharon Malone, M.D., credits her dear friend, former First Lady Michelle Obama, for helping her put menopause on the map. “She and I did a podcast about three and a half years ago,” she says. “She’s one of the first people who admitted to having menopausal symptoms.”

Dr. Malone’s work, together with the help of other key menopause advocates, has brought us to where we are today: More providers than ever are finally talking about menopause and sharing information, women are pushing for relief of their symptoms, and a growing force of people are fighting for change. Advocates are calling for more medical research so that menopause — and the many ways it impacts women’s health — is better understood.

In our latest episode of Asking for a Friend, we sat down with Dr. Malone, who is Chief Medical Advisor of menopause telehealth company Alloy Women’s Health and author of the upcoming book Grown Woman Talk: Your Guide to Getting and Staying Healthy, to discuss menopause care. From how to heat things up in the bedroom (when the only thing heating up are your hot flashes) to navigating medical gaslighting, and why there doesn’t quite seem to be enough information out there on perimenopause and menopause, we asked her all the tough questions. Read the highlights here and watch our full conversation above.

Things have gone south in the bedroom during perimenopause — what can I do?

“If you have vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, or haven’t had a good night’s sleep in the past three years, these are things that are not going to enhance your libido,” Dr. Malone says. “The simplest thing to do is to realize what are the things getting in the way of making you not be your best self. Let’s address those hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and let’s make sure you get a good night’s sleep.”

How do I navigate medial gaslighting?

“If you have the luxury of being in a place where there are other doctors to choose from, then look for another doctor or get recommendations from a friend, or go to the website menopause.org, which has listed menopause specialists in your area.” Dr. Malone also notes that this would be a good opportunity to try telemedicine as there are several online companies making menopause treatment more accessible.

Why is so hard to get information about perimenopause and menopause?

“Unfortunately, mothers don’t typically talk to their daughters about menopause and perimenopause,” says Dr. Malone, who points out how helpful this kind of guidance can be. Black women, for example, often experience menopause symptoms earlier and for a longer period of time than white women.

“This is in contrast to what happens in puberty…even pregnancies are discussed, but when it comes to perimenopause, unfortunately, there’s a lot of shame,” she adds. “It’s associated with getting older and no one likes to admit that, particularly for women in this culture. Not having that intergenerational conversation is the first reason why.”

The second reason as Dr. Malone notes is that a doctor may not be aware of it. “That started about 20 years ago with a lot of the misinformation that came out of the Women’s Health Initiative, leaving us with a generation of doctors who have not been trained in perimenopause and menopausal care.” Again, finding a menopause specialist that can help can be the first step toward getting the care you need.

If I said the word “icon” and asked who comes to mind, I’d bet my whole paycheck that an image of country music superstar, Grammy Award-winning artist, actress, philanthropist, and general super hero, Dolly Parton pops up in your mind. You probably already know about Parton’s 11 Grammy Awards, 54 Grammy nominations, 2 Oscar nominations, and maybe even the two million free books she sends to kids all around the world each month, but did you know that she always keeps bologna and Velveeta cheese stocked in her fridge? Neither did we.

Dolly Parton recently renewed her partnership with Duncan Hines for the third year and to celebrate, she added six new baking mixes to her Bake Like a Rockstar Baking Collection and then sat down to tell us all about them. In addition to Dolly’s new baking mixes, which include delicious treats like banana nut muffins and buttermilk pancakes, we spoke to Dolly about everything from Girl Dinners to the two ingredients she always keeps stocked in her fridge: Velveeta and bologna. Oh and if you ever wondered if she prefers brisket or fried chicken, we talked about that too.

Andie MacDowell: ‘Going Gray Made Me So Much More Powerful’ https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/2950609/andie-macdowell-gray-hair/ https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/2950609/andie-macdowell-gray-hair/#respond Wed, 07 Feb 2024 16:55:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2950609

When she was in her forties, actress and model Andie MacDowell was asked a shocking question by a journalist in Italy: How does it feel to be losing your beauty?

“I didn’t get upset. I didn’t get angry,” MacDowell recalled in an interview with Flow. “I felt sorry for her. You know what I thought? You’re gonna be my age. And are you gonna feel like that? Is that what you’re gonna think? You’re gonna think you only get to be beautiful up until 40 and then that’s it?”

Instead, the award-winning movie and television star explained that she didn’t feel like she was losing her beauty, thank you very much. And twenty years later, MacDowell is even more sure of the fact. “I think I’m a beautiful older woman,” she declared. “There’s something in your eyes when you get older. You don’t have it when you’re young … It’s a soul.”

During the pandemic, MacDowell stopped coloring her hair. It was a chance to try something she’d been mulling over since her sister went gray, and her friends cheered her on. “My girls would say to me, you look amazing. You look badass.”

MacDowell agreed: “I loved it,” she enthused. “I thought my eyes looked like a completely different color. I loved my skin tone and I just really wanted to do it. I had to do this for myself, ’cause you only get one life. And this was gonna bring me so much pleasure and joy.”

With a smile, MacDowell admits that she’s “felt prettier” — and more powerful — ever since going gray. “It made me so much more powerful and so much more comfortable. It made me feel me… I’m not trying to be something that I’m not.”

That doesn’t mean it’s been effortless for MacDowell to embrace aging in a culture obsessed with youth and an industry centered so heavily on appearances. “You have to start looking at those pieces of yourself that age, and I sit there and I look at myself when I see myself in a mirror and I have those negative voices — but then at the same time, I’m in great shape, and I can run, and I’m fast.”

At 65, MacDowell has a critical piece of wisdom to share: “It’s just a body.”

“You can’t remain this young, youthful beauty forever. It’s unrealistic,” MacDowell explained. She’s eager to see that fact permeate in the media, where women are still often shamed and dismissed as they get older, while men (think: George Clooney) have the privilege of being seen as even sexier and more successful as the years go by. “That pisses me off,” she admits. “Men have had so many privileges: going gray and being the ‘silver fox’ and being sexy as they age and having that allure and charisma.”

MacDowell doesn’t begrudge them that celebration of aging well — but she wants the same for women, too.

In the dressing room MacDowell prepped in before her interview, she encountered a photo of Willie Nelson that made her reflect on the beauty of aging — and the disparities women and men face as they do. “I was looking at him and his hair’s slightly silver, and his skin’s not perfect… And I, before I started looking at the details, I just thought, what a handsome man. He has no makeup. And we just don’t do that to women. We don’t see the flaws in a woman like that and go, oh my God, they’re so beautiful, because we haven’t been fed those images at all. We’ve been fed these unattainable images of women. And so that’s what our expectations are. And we can never be happy with ourselves because we set the standard so high that we’ll never be happy.”

MacDowell hopes that women will band together to make more room for each other and embrace aging in new ways — and in the meantime, she’s leading the charge by abandoning the standards shame and a sexist society have put on all of us.

“I use the term a lot for myself: I’m debonair. ‘Cause that’s something you would think of a man,” she shared. “I love taking those terms that you would use for a man and giving it to myself. Because it is how I feel about myself. I do feel that way. I am debonair.”

Andie MacDowell is 'Ready to Be an Older Woman,' But She’s Not Done Rewriting the Script on Aging https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/2950574/andie-macdowell-then-now/ https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/2950574/andie-macdowell-then-now/#respond Wed, 07 Feb 2024 16:50:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2950574

When Andie MacDowell looks back at her life in the spotlight, it brings her right back to now — and a sense of gratitude to be a woman of a certain age.

The actress and model couldn’t help but laugh at her L’Oreal Paris ads for hair dyes and color creams. “The first commercial that they had me shoot, I was 40 and I didn’t have a lot of gray yet,” she remembers.

These days, MacDowell is all grays: She stopped coloring her hair during the pandemic and never looked back, taking inspiration from George Clooney and other “gorgeous men” along the way. “I am 65 and I was ready at 60 to be an older woman. I just didn’t want to have to pretend to be something that I wasn’t,” she explains. “I just wanted to be an older woman.”

Twenty years ago, MacDowell wasn’t so sure what she wanted to be. Seeing images from The Way Home, her new Hallmark Channel series featuring Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams and Sadie Laflamme-Snow, she opens up about getting through the years between then and now.

“When you are a woman and you are in your 40s and 50s, they don’t know what to do with you,” she confesses. “That’s what’s so great about being silver — there’s no question what I am or what I’m playing. I do feel like my 40s and 50s were a bit of floundering. I tried to pretend like it was all going well…but it’s a very difficult time for women, because the world doesn’t support them as well as they should.”

MacDowell’s career in her 60s, however, has opened up new terrain. “I get to play more quirky, more interesting characters. I’m seen more for my heart and my soul.” She’s also had the chance to watch her children grow into themselves — and, while filming the 2021 Netflix miniseries MAID, to grow alongside her daughter Margaret Qualley, who co-starred.

“I kept asking her… ‘Do you believe me?’ And she goes, ‘yeah, I believe you.’ ‘Do you like what I’m doing?’ ‘I love what you’re doing.’ It gave me a lot of freedom to make the choices that I had to make.”

MacDowell also made the choice recently to break out of her comfort zone and strut onto set in nothing but underwear. “There’s something different about taking your clothes off at 65, because you don’t expect me to be anything but a body. There’s no expectation to be some sex pot or whatever.” The same mantra that has been carrying her through this next chapter got her through that day: “It’s just a body!”

Even when her career felt unsteady, MacDowell struck gold. “I didn’t make a lot of money,” she recalls of her breakout role in Sex, Lies, and Videotape, “but I didn’t care. I was so thankful to have a job. I was really struggling at that point in my life and I just wanted to play a character.” (She won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead and a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for the film.)

Four years later, MacDowell starred opposite Bill Murray in Groundhog Day — a performance that still fills her with pride. “I think it’s a perfect movie,” she declares. “I admire the discipline I had during that film. I would tell myself: I am proud of you, ’cause I like the way you’re handling things. I think you are really smarter than you realize.”

“The way I look at my career, and the longevity of my career, is having success over and over again,” she explains during a flashback to Four Weddings and a Funeral, in which she starred opposite Hugh Grant. “That establishes you as someone who’s bankable. Because I was able to continue to make successful movies or shows, it kept my career alive.”

But MacDowell is nowhere near finished. “There’s so many things I would like to do for women to explore what it is to be an older woman,” she shares. “I have so many ideas. I would love to play a silver fox type: super sexy, not held back by age, not demeaned by my age. Elevated just like a man. But then I’d also like to show all the vulnerabilities, the heartbreaking realities as well. I’d like to do both extremes.”

Off the set, MacDowell is also intent on building a next chapter for herself — and by herself. “I want to read books. I want to be in book clubs. I want to hike. I want to travel. I want to continue to do work that I am proud of and makes me feel like I’m growing. But to go out and search for someone — what am I searching for? What am I missing? I’m doing all the fun things that I enjoy doing: taking yoga, working out, eating great food. I need girlfriends, honestly. And gay friends.”

Ron Moore Talks Future Seasons of 'For All Mankind' & Whether He’ll Return For the End of 'Outlander' https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2950375/ron-moore-outlander-end-for-all-mankind/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2950375/ron-moore-outlander-end-for-all-mankind/#respond Mon, 05 Feb 2024 03:26:44 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2950375 Ron Moore has created some of television’s most addictive series from Battlestar Galactica to Outlander. SheKnows caught up with Moore exclusively at Comic Con to chat all about the fourth season of his current show For All Mankind, Apple TV’s space hit that spans decades. In the recent For All Mankind season 4 finale, the show yet again, did a huge time jump, expanded their world in the most explosive way, this time going to Mars. We caught up with Moore about all his projects, what he hopes to cover in future seasons of For All Mankind, and of course, the final upcoming season of Outlander, which he created, starring Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan, and adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series. Moore let us in on whether he has any plans to return for Outlander’s eighth and final season. Plus, we took a look back at all of his shows and make him choose between his favorite characters, from which one he’d love to have a whisky with, which he’d send to another planet, and which he’d want to live forever, and which of his shows he wishes he could get one more season to work on. Watch the exclusive video to find out.

In four seasons of For All Mankind, Ed Baldwin and his space fam and gang have been through it. They’ve lost children, moved to the moon, lost friends, moved to Mars, and changed history. Literally. For All Mankind operates on a slightly different historical timeline, where the characters Forrest Gump their way into big historical moments. Plus, there’s Russian spies. Half expecting Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys’s spy characters from The Americans to show up in Mars, and I wouldn’t be mad about it. This finale was game-changing and taught us one thing, men love war no matter what planet they’re on. Season 4 ends on Mars in the year 2012. In season 5, we’ll have to wait and see if Barack Obama will be President? Moore tells us what ground he hopes to cover in future seasons. And whether Ed Baldwin and his beard will survive all the space drama. Just when you think For All Mankind would never kill off a character, they in fact kill off that character. (Hi Karen, bye Karen). So, let’s be honest, Ed is not safe in Moore’s space, which Moore sort of delights in. He also breaks down for us whether there was any division between the writers in killing off Karen last season.

The first question we asked Moore is which of his shows he’d want to go back and visit. “Oh, that’s hard, they’re all my children! But, it would be great to go back and do another season of Battlestar.” Moore says that would be tough though, since it ended so definitively, but he says doing something that took place between seasons would be fun. When we suggest he do a bonus season for all of his shows, he quickly agrees, “A bonus season for them all would be great.” In-between seasons for Battlestar, Outlander and For All Mankind, yes please.

Having created so many amazing shows and characters, we thought it would be fun to get Moore to choose which of his characters he’d want to be stuck on an island with, which he’d send to another planet and which he would clone, and of course, which he’d want to time travel with. We gave him Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe), Ed Baldwin (Joel Kinamman), Kara Thrace (Katee Sackhoff), Adama (Edward James Olmos), and Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) as options.

He quickly answered who he’d want to send to another planet. “Jamie.” Wait, what?! You’re sending Jamie Fraser to Mars?! Wrong, Jamie. A slight Jamie mix-up, Moore says he meant Lee Adama (played by Jamie Bamber) on Battlestar which makes the most sense. But now, we kind of want to see Jamie Fraser space traveling in an astrokilt. Maybe in space, no one will ask him what’s under his kilt, since gravity won’t exist and we’d see for ourselves. Seriously, kilts won’t do well in space. When it came to which character he’d want to live forever, he quickly said Kara from Battlestar. This was good to hear, since Kara – spoiler alert – died in the Battlestar finale. Who Moore picked for time travel was not a surprise. The time-traveling queen herself, Claire Fraser. Wise move, since she can do it. If he picked Jamie Fraser, they’d probably just run head first into a rock. Seems like Moore left Claire’s better half out in the cold in this game, but worry not, “He’ll be fine! Talk about whisky, he’s got plenty of whisky,” Moore says. This is true.

As for Outlander’s final season, we had to ask Moore if he would be making a cameo and perhaps return for one final episode. “I already made my cameo back in season 1,” Moore laughs. “You never know, would be fun to write one, but I’m not sure if that’s in the cards or not, because I’m not on the staff. But you know, you never say never.” We’d never say never. And that was not a “no.” In fact, that sounds fairly hopeful. One can only hope Moore gets to put his creative input into the final season of the show he helped put on the map.

For those who are anxiously waiting for the second half of Outlander season 7, catch up on the mid-season finale recap here, and watch Balfe and Heughan chat all about their second to last season. Plus, you can revisit Sophie Skelton, David Berry, John Bell, Maril Davis, and Balfe and Heughan at the Outlander season 7 premiere in New York City. All 7 seasons of Outlander are streaming on Starz.

From Jamie Fraser, to Claire Fraser, to Ed Baldwin, to the Adama boys, watch the video to find out exactly who Moore wants to drink whisky with, spend all time with, and which of his show’s finales he knows people are still mad at him about. And of course, only time will tell if Moore will pop up in the credits for Outlander’s final season. For All Mankind is streaming now on Apple TV+.

Monica Raymund Reveals Her Thoughts on 'Hightown's Ending & the Joys of Playing a Queer Character https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2944365/monica-raymund-hightown-ending-playing-queer-character/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/2944365/monica-raymund-hightown-ending-playing-queer-character/#respond Fri, 26 Jan 2024 20:31:46 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=2944365 After three seasons of the show, Jackie Quiñones (played by Monica Raymund) and her rocky journey will be coming to an end as Hightown‘s season 3 premieres today Jan. 26 on Starz. And while fans of the show are surely sad to see it come to an end, we’re beyond excited to see how it all plays out.

Talking to SheKnows’ Reshma Gopaldas, Raymund looked back at her experience at the show, and how meaningful her character has been for her career.

When thinking of a highlight throughout the seasons, for example, Raymund teased the show’s upcoming finale. “I think my favorite moment is probably being directed by Rebecca [Perry Cutter],” she says. “She’s the showrunner, she’s the executive producer, she’s the brains behind the operation so when she was directing the finale it was just this incredible full-circle moment where I got to finish this very personal show that I love so much with the woman who created it.”

As for her perhaps her least favorite time throughout filming, Raymund thought of one very specific context. “Shooting on a boat is pretty hard,” she says.

In the show, Raymund plays Jackie, a lesbian State Trooper who’s not afraid to bend some rules to get what she wants. Talking about how meaningful it has been to play such an unapologetic queer and Latina character on TV, Raymund couldn’t help but gush. “It’s me!” she says. “I’m a queer Latina person so I get to play a character who is reflecting my own community.”

“I didn’t see a lot of examples like that when I was coming up so to be included in that, in the small pool of characters who represent my community, is such an honor,” she says.

But, despite loving who her character represents, it’s safe to say Raymund and Jackie are quite different. “I’m so happy to say that I can now not act on all of my reactions, I am now more successful than not in this point in my life,” Raymund says of the differences between her and her character. “Jackie is still at the phase where she’s sort of just reactive, she feels something she wants to do something about it, there’s no playing the tape out and evaluating the consequences of her choices. There’s no such thing as consequence.”

As for the finale, Raymund says there’s nothing she would add to how it all panned out. “It’s already been written exactly the way it should be,” she says, adding that Jackie’s ending will see her “finally fully formed.” We can’t wait to see how it all plays out! Raymund also gave us a hint about what’s next post Hightown for her. She’s been directing a few Starz shows, and is a return to Chicago Fire in the cards? Watch the video to find out.

Hightown‘s season 3 exciting season 3 premiere airs tonight on Starz.
